Long time -no blog!
I’ve decided to utilize the blog as a space to tackle frequently asked questions I have!
First up – when to schedule newborn photos!
The short answer – whenever you can! Newborns seldom follow a schedule and don’t always arrive to the planned time! Or maybe you just heard about newborn photography. Whatever the reason – your baby is the smallest they will ever be now. And we can capture beautiful baby portraits no matter the age of your baby.
However, in an ideal world…I’d recommend reaching out while you are still pregnant. Then I can save time in the month of your due date, so that I know we can find a time to fit you in. I find that babies are their curliest, sleepiest little selves usually between 8-16 days old. They usually are still so sleepy that they let me place their hands just so, and don’t really mind if we go from pose to pose. So for the greatest variety of images, the 8-16 day window seems to work best. However I’ve found that babies who are even a month old will do fabulously! Sometimes older babies are more alert. So I can’t always put their hands just so, and maybe they don’t like to rest their chin on their hands…however in exchange we get some beautiful open eye contact!
Really babies are just their own little individuals, even some very new babies are very alert. Others are super sleepy. Some are big 10lb-ers and some are teeny 5lb-ers. Its just always a treasure to have professional crisp photos you can cherish for a lifetime!
Here are some examples of older babies!
